Flowering Dogwood Raku Vessel

Flowering Dogwood Raku Vessel

by Anne Webb, 2006

The graceful flowering dogwood tree grows in both the wild and cultivated gardens here along the Gulf Coast.

White dogwood flowers and green leaves over a rich ruby red background, adorn the neck of this vessel. Further down, the body of the pot has been glazed in deep green, offsetting the red quite beautifully. One may notice in the photo, the green glaze has gone a lustrous copper in places where the flame has come in contact with it and depleted it of oxygen .. a gift from the fire!
Flowering Dogwood Raku Vessel The dogwood design was incised into the clay at the "leatherhard" stage and later glazed using 7 seperate glazes, before it was raku-fired.
